Increased Communication Competency For Remote Workers
When a hardworking, widely disbursed team at large health insurance provider realized that their geographic distance was hindering their ability to communicate, coordinate work, track project status, and keep their client up to date, they called on Brighton Leadership for help. After a brief needs assessment, Brighton Leadership created a custom workshop designed to build connectedness for remote workers. The workshop included communications, conflict resolution and use of the “Project Game”, an exercise that allows participants the opportunity to experience frustration caused by a lack of communication about goals and objectives. The workshop resulted in a breakthrough understanding on the role and value of communication, strong team bonding and a commitment for change in how to manage projects in the future.
Integration of Project Management and Behavioral Styles to Optimize Performance
With an ever-increasing workload and limited resources, managers at the Leadership Development office of a major University soon realized that professional intervention was needed to keep pace with their projects. Leveraging the MBTI assessment work that the managers had recently completed, Brighton Leadership developed a multi-dimensional custom workshop “Delivering with Excellence” that seamlessly blended their new MBTI knowledge with project management tools and daily work responsibilities to better manage their work. The outcome included team action items to increase productivity and a better understanding of how behavioral styles can be integrated to optimize their approach to work.
Strong Sponsorship relocates a Working Team without Loss of Productivity
A major consumer products company called on Brighton Leadership Group for an approach to relocate a critical, high-stakes, 500-person project team without a significant loss of productivity. The project team was heavily engaged in one of the most important projects in the organizations history and needed to be relocated while the project was still ongoing. The relocation also involved an entirely new approach to working which included a smaller workspace, no offices, and a wireless work environment to enable collaborative work sessions anywhere in the new space.
Utilizing town hall style meetings and a variety of communication vehicles the upcoming change was shared with the team. An internal council was created to develop guidelines and policies on how to use their new, fully-wireless, collaborative work space. Through the effective use of change management and strong sponsorship coaching, the team was successfully relocated to the new office without the loss of productivity.
Work Smarter Not Harder – Speaking Engagement
At a large State University System there were an overwhelming number of projects and not enough time. A new software tool was purchased and no one had time to implement this new tool. The main office did not even have time to interview and hire some additional project managers that would help with the workload.
We presented an approach that had participants evaluate their current projects and assess them against success criteria. Brighton Leadership Group shared the benefits of project management, the process for creating a PMO (Project management office) and finally gave tips for ensuring success though user adoption.
Resolution/Outcome
“That was the best presentation ever”
“That was so helpful, it gave me exactly the insight I needed”
Improved Team Compatibility and Competence with MTBI Workshop
A large non-profit organization administration’s team was fragmented and inefficient. They organization had experienced a high-growth period and the team was becoming frustrated with meetings and lack of goal accomplishment. Team members were quickly hired and put into roles without clearly understanding the full dynamics of the team. There was an environment of distrust appearing and the organization leadership was looking for a way to improve the compatibility of the team.
Brighton Leadership Group performed an individual coaching session for each team member that explored their MBTI profile and working preferences. Each members preferences were then discussed and validated in a day long workshop that explored how each individual team member’s work style and contribution was different. This discussion enabled each team member to see the other team member’s different perspectives and enabled an understanding of how those differences could be leveraged. Brighton Leadership Group facilitated the team through a “compare and contrast” of the differences and gained a list of agreements that the team implemented to improve working conditions and organizational effectiveness.
Portfolio Management
Provided Portfolio Management for a global reporting and consolidation project and an ERP upgrade which saved the company $15 million. Management implemented the PMO’s recommendation to postpone the version upgrade and negotiated with the vendor to provide support beyond the expiration of the maintenance agreement. The project was refocused on optimizing the current processes and systems to achieve greater benefits.
Project Quality Assurance Review
Performed Quality Assurance Review of a critical ERP project and identified issues that drastically impacted the project such as inadequate change management, inefficient project management and lack of internal controls. The CEO, CIO and President used this information to remove the project sponsor and reorganize the project team. The project had accumulated over $20 million in implementation costs over a four-year period and was behind schedule. The changes resulted in a project turnaround.
PMO Implementation
An integrated, comprehensive system of health services, hospitals and clinics had a portfolio of business imperatives that far exceeded its capacity for successful completion. In addition, the executive team was not informed of issues within the business imperatives until a disastrous issue was covered on the evening news. Implemented strategic portfolio management process. Provided coaching and group facilitation to Change Leadership team. Designed an integrated project status summary report. Improved the identification and resolution of issues within the strategic business imperatives.
Business Process Optimization
A manufacturing company was experiencing severe problems with its payroll processing, reporting and filing activities. The functionality and systems were less formal and structured (and thus, less effective) than required. Acquisitions and departmental changes compounded these problems. The company sought a permanent solution to these problem areas that would also accommodate further growth and corporate structural changes as the company matures. Assisted the company by reviewing the improvements that have been made in the payroll department and ensuring that the proper controls were in place.
